Clay County Chamber of Commerce Strategic Plan 2009
Mission:
To serve as a resource to business, citizens, and visitors while
promoting and fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life in
Clay County, Indiana.
Vision: The vision of the Clay County Indiana Chamber of Commerce is to
energize the region by creating exceptional business growth and profitability in
a vibrant culture.
I. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall operate professionally
Create
and monitor an annual budget including expenses, expected income, and income
sources for Board approval.
Create
and review annually job descriptions for the Executive Director, President, and
Directors of the Clay County Chamber of Commerce.
Execute
an annual job performance written review for the Executive Director position.
Track
director meeting attendance. Directors must attend a minimum of 75% of the
Director meetings.
Maintain a professional office environment as a showplace for Clay County
visitors.
Seek out and formally welcome new executives to the
community
II. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall grow the membership 10% per
year by executing an annual membership campaign.
III. The Clay County
Chamber of Commerce shall market its efforts through various media using a
planned marketing media campaign.
IV. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall be responsive to the needs of the community and its members
and provide leadership on community business issues.
Provide
high quality, general, and niche business related information through print and
electronic means to the membership and community at large.
Provide
regular scheduled electronic communication to members and the community on
general activities in accordance with an established schedule.
Publish, on a reoccurring schedule, information about the Clay County Chamber of
Commerce.
Provide
on demand current Clay County Census data.
Create,
maintain, and inventory a document available upon demand that promotes Clay
County as a good place for business.
V. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall provide solidarity in focus on legislative priorities.
Clay
County Chamber of Commerce shall seek out current legislative activities that
affect Clay County by assigning responsibility for this function.
Clay
County Chamber of Commerce shall lobby on
behalf of legislative agendas in Indiana and at the Federal Government level on
issues such as energy, transportation, health care, education, and other issues.
affecting the Clay County, Indiana.
VI. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall promote organizational and individual collaboration for the
greater good of the community at all levels.
Collaborate with regional chambers of commerce to develop consensus on key
regional issues.
Collaborate with regional CEO’s to establish a roundtable program to foster
entrepreneurial efforts.
Collaborate specifically with southern Clay County business organizations.
Communicate openly and frequently with mayor, county commissioners, county
council, and other government officials by setting up and staffing a regular
communication meeting on a definite schedule.
Communicate on a regular schedule with West Central Indiana Economic office.
Promote Chamber internal business communication and collaboration.
VII. The Clay County
Chamber of Commerce shall promote health and wellness for its citizens.
Provide
information on key health and wellness issues, such as tobacco usage, obesity,
etc., facing the business community through scheduled communications and
programming.
Promote
local health opportunities through organizations such as the YMCA, St. Vincent’s
Clay Hospital, and other similar organizations.
VIII. The Clay County
Chamber of Commerce shall seek out areas for economic growth
Develop strategies to promote energy efficiencies and environmental
sustainability while balancing environmental and energy concerns with the needs
of a healthy economy.
Support efforts to attract jobs to Clay County through the County Council,
Commissioners, and the State and Local Redevelopment Commission.

IX. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall provide opportunities to start and grow small businesses in
Clay County.
Offer
business incubator access.
Provide
networking opportunities for small businesses through programs such as Business
After Hours.
Provide
educational opportunities through programs with local educational institutions
and Economic Forecasts.
Promote
the success and importance of small business through the Small Business
Celebration.
X. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall improve the standard of living of its residents through
education, wellness promotion, workforce development, leadership development,
and a commitment to the arts and sports.
Add regional upper
level educational leaders to the Chamber Board.
Add local non-profit
organizational leaders to the Chamber Board.
Maintain wellness visibility through Chamber Membership of Health Organizations
Provide
topical and relevant economic information for the region
Collaborate with local, regional, and national organizations to promote the
latest trends in workforce solutions
XI. The Clay County Chamber
of Commerce shall promote international trade as a key component of the region’s
economy.
Train
local individuals in international trade issues through various available state
sponsored programs.
